  • Life is Great

We were back to regular camp business today with perfect weather that allowed all our campers to be outside and to play all day. Just a picture perfect day and exactly what you want you for your kids at camp. Nobody was laying on a couch or in their room watching Netflix. Your kids were outside playing hard. They were getting tubed around gorgeous Fiddle Lake and they were playing cards with their friends at the apple tree.  Days like these are easy and simple and fill us up with what we need. It is why Life is Great at Chenny!

    Sports, sports and more sports!!!

Tonights evening activity, Live Band Karaoke came to Chenny and the campers on stage were rockin’ out. They had a live band behind them as each group sang their song of choice. It was fun, it was live and it was awesome. Every day spent here, presents very unique experiences that uplift and inspire our campers. Tonight was again one of those incredible nights that allow your kids to feel free, creative, fearless and happy!! What is better than that ?

  • We Shine at Chenny

Hard to believe campers have been here for 19 days. We have done a lot these past 19 days and we have so much more to do. For our new campers, I am sure the thought may have been daunting, thinking about how your camper would do for 1 night and here we are at day 19. What an accomplishment and it is something to celebrate. Having our first visiting day since 2019 couldn’t be more exciting.  It’s been a long 4 years without you and we are getting camp ready for your arrival on Saturday. The feel of Visiting Day excitement is most definitely in the air.

Kids got back to playing some great games today. They played hard, they played fair and the definitely gave it their all.

Camp is where we shine and tonight we were as bright as the sun. Tonight was our  Camper Talent Show and this night is by far my favorite evening activity. Whatever I may be dealing with at camp is on hold because there is just nothing better than watching your kids on our stage performing for us all. The energy in Shields Hall was electric. It is a combination of the kids finding the courage and feeling the freedom to get on that stage in front of the entire camp and the support and encouragement the audience gives back. It’s incredible. There wasn’t anybody in Shields Hall tonight that didn’t feel something incredible. We live for nights like this and it’s why we all keep coming back. When Freshman camper, April Pollirstok sat at the keyboard and played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, every single person sang along with her. It was magic. Or Junior,  Zach Adler brilliantly telling jokes to a crowd so engaged and loving every line. Everyone had such a great time, that having a Camper Talent Show Part II is a must do this summer and we can’t for it.

Our Seniors returned tonight from their incredible overnight trip to Hershey Park. The rolled off the buses with shopping bags and Hershey Hoodies, exhausted and happy. A great trip for this amazing group campers.

The Supers get back from their Virginia Beach adventure tomorrow and we cant wait to hear all about it!

It was another great day up here in paradise.

  • A Great Day of Trips!!

There is something quite special about heading out of camp on trips with your campies. Everyone is wearing their camp shirts, there is ton of excitement about what the day will bring and everyone loads the buses to some amazing fun places. It unifies us as a group, as we exit our gates for some fantastic adventures. It was an absolute beautiful day and a perfect day for some fun Chenny trips.

Freshman, Juniors and Middies had a great day at Aquatopia. They spent their day getting wet and wild in the waterpark and loved it.

Inters & Collegiates spent their morning jumping around at Skyzone and if that wasn’t enough fun, their afternoon was all about ice skating.   As the kids rolled back into camp and off the buses, they were exhausted but so beyond happy. The kids looked beat but exhilarated, tired yet satisfied. A perfect long and fun summer

Seniors had their first overnight at Hershey Park. It was a day at the park full of fun and rides and there was no lack of chocolate and great times. The campers were so excited to be there and their smiles said it all. What is better than riding rollercoasters, eating chocolate and hanging with your best friends. Days like today is why our summers are so memorable and special and these Seniors will forever remember their fun trip to Hershey Park.

It was a huge day for our Supers as they headed out to their first overnight trip to Virginia beach with a stop today at Kings Dominion amusement park. Trips for our older kids is such an incredible experience and they look forward to it all year long.

GC’s got busy at the high ropes climbing course Gorilla Grove. The challenged themselves and soared to new heights. They came back to camp and rolled off the buses  exhausted and tired but oh so happy. It was all smiles as our incredible group of GC’s loved their trip day fun!!

The CIT’s headed out to spend the night camping at a nearby camp ground. They pitched their tents, cooked their food, sat around a campfire roasting marshmallows, telling stories and laughing together. They are having the best time together, hanging it nature and making memories that will stay with them forver.

All campers are back at camp or at their hotel or campsite, safe and sound and exhausted from their fun day out. We have a late wake up tomorrow to get some extra zzzzz’s and enjoy a an extra 45 minutes of sleep. The kids went bonkers when we announced it on their buses and cheered in appreciation. Morale is high here and the next big celebration is when you all come to join us on Saturday. Visiting Day is just 4 days away and we all can’t wait to show you how much fun were all having up here.

  • A Little Kindness Goes A Long Way

After 3 days of Olympic mayhem, we were all so excited to get some extra sleep this morning and we all needed it. It was a gorgeous day at camp and everyone was ready to get back to our normal activities. The sun was shining and the weather was perfect. We had a delicious brunch and all was right Camp Chen-A-Wanda. Two weeks have literally flown by and now we are sliding into Visiting Day. We wish we could slow down time but there isn’t a moment we aren’t appreciating and a second we aren’t grateful to be here.

We had a full schedule of games today on both boys side and girls side. Apologies to you at home, but I will be posting scores tomorrow from today’s matches. Just know that your kids had a ball and played hard today. It was a great day to be a Chenny athlete.

Our evening activity was a new camp favorite and an old camp tradition, Awards at the Amphitheater. What starts out as a giant dance party and sing-a-long, ends with Camper of the Week and Kind Camper Awards. Such a fun night with the entire camp present, celebrating our awesome campers in the most spirited and supportive way. When each camper heard their name called, everyone cheered in support. When one wins, we all win!!

  • Red Cameroon Wins Olympics

I remember the exact day I stopped telling my kids to not jump in puddles after or during a rainstorm. I was worried about them having cold feet, getting dirty and ruining their shoes. Then a conversation I had with a camper about ten years ago changed everything. As I watched a camper run and jump into a puddle on the way to The Lodge, I stopped him and told not to do that because of all the excuses I had in my mind and the ones I would repeat to my own kids. He looked at me and said, “my mom says it’s ok to jump in puddles and it’s a kids job to not worry about dirty shoes. Once I start to worry, that means I’ve lost the special magic of what makes a kid a kid.” That moment changed my perspective and I called his mom and thanked her for teaching her son such an incredible lesson. He allowed me to worry less and play more. Now, that mom knew her son and packed a bunch of sneakers that summer. We washed his dirty ones and all worked out. So today, the rain came and yes your kids jumped in puddles. Yes, clothes were wet and yes, they got a bit dirty and yes they had the absolute best time. Not a worry in the world and our campers definitely still have that magic of being kids.

Talk about twists and turns and lead changes by the minute. This Olympics was beyond unexpected and who was leading in the morning dropped by lunch. There was so much movement with the leader board, we couldn’t keep up and the anticipation was just so much. Olympics is tradition and it is something that campers did here decades ago and still do today. Traditions are what connects us all to this place and to one another. Camp traditions are bigger than each of us but has become the thread to our shared experiences here. To go through an Olympics together bonds us to one another. For the past 3 days, every camper dug deep and gave it everything they had.  New friendships were made and connections deepened. To think that a kickball game or a waterpolo match brings so many people closer together is why we love these Olympics games.

The Olympic games ended as all three teams presented their songs, banner and plaque inside Shields Hall. Each team presented their Cheer, March and their Alma Mater and the words of Red Cameroon said it so beautifully in their Alma Mater…. “ Cherish your time – Cherish your time before it’s gone. Moments together – Can we just hold each other , don’t let go. Can we just stay, right here – Can we just stay right here.”  These words are from the heart and everyone feels it. It is why this experience means so much to us all. When you let camp in, it overtakes your heart and changes who you are.

Now it was in the hands of judges as the decision who would win Olympics 2023. Shields Hall was packed with our campers dressed head to toe in their team colors waiting to see the winning team revealed. The time had come and the judges raced on turtle scooters. The team to win 2 races was crowned our Olympic Champion and a  huge congratulations to RED CAMEROON who brought home the gold.

    • Red Cameroon –  1,819
    • Gold Ecuador –  1,804
    • Blue Iceland  – 1,792

What we learned from these games were that we all played hard, respected the game, supported each other and believed that in the end it wasn’t just about getting the win but being there for one another. Two and half days ago, we began as Red Cameroon, Gold Ecuador and Blue Iceland and tonight we are back to One Camp Chenny Family.

  • Olympics Bring the Best Out Of Us

We are in full competition mode and loving every minute of it. There is so much Olympic spirit in the air and each team is putting their heart and soul in every battle. There are wins and losses, there are cheers and chants and above all there is a respect for the game. We congratulate those who have brought home a victory and support the teams that may have lost their games today. It is having respect for one another that makes these Olympics Games so impactful.

Tonight was all about Apache Relay. Each team has 72 events to complete and the first team to finish will be crowned the winner of the Relay. The horn blew and the race began. Every member of each team is an integral part of the race. No matter if you are a Freshman or a CIT, your parts are equally important. This event emphasizes what a family we are here and bring us all together. There were so many memorable moments from tonights Apache but one that stood out was Senior camper, Arielle Schrager who had to eat 2 cookies, chug a glass of milk followed by whistling Yankee Doodle Dandy. As Arielle started the event, her entire division surrounded her chanting her name and cheering her on. Arielle is on the Red Cameroon team but that didn’t matter to the girls who were on Blue and Gold because this moment was bigger than the games. It was girls supporting their friend and letting her know she’s got this. Arielle ate those cookies, chugged the milk and whistled quicker than any other camper we’ve seen tasked with this event. The place erupted as she completed it and the look on her face was priceless. At that moment, total support and encouragement gave her exactly what she needed. It was awesome to witness and a moment that we know will stay with Arielle forever. Olympics brings us together and brings the best out of us.

After a full day of games, our Olympic athletes were glad to get to bed. They know that the battle continues tomorrow with more games and ends with Olympic Sing. If you know Olympics, It always comes down to Sing!!

  • Olympic Spirit

There was a buzz around camp today and it was without a doubt, serious anticipation for a camp favorite event, OLYMPICS!!  The campers had a hunch that something special was happening but they just weren’t sure when it was breaking. But boy, was the excitement building and everyone wanted today to be the day. Some were convinced it was breaking at snack call but when the bugle rang for 3rd period, confusion set in. As campers were into their 3rd period activity, that familiar Olympic fanfare song was blasting from all the speakers and down from the top of the hill with our Olympic torch in hand, came the Head Counselors signifying that OLYMPICS IS HERE!

As the Head Counselors proudly paraded down the hill, every camper ran to Shields Hall knowing what was about to happen. There were chants and cheers and the Olympic spirit was alive today at Chenny. As every camper and staff was inside Shields Hall, you could feel the energy grow. It was electric and the type of feeling you wish yo0u could bottle. We announced the teams, Red Cameroon, Gold Ecuador and Blue Iceland followed by Sergeants and Captains. So much to celebrate and so much to look forward to these next 3 days.  Our camp is now split in three equal teams and will spend the next 3 days in deep competition, giving it everything they’ve got but most importantly, having the best time at Olympics 2023.

Just when we thought that camp could not possibly get any better, Olympics takes us to a whole new level. Tonight was a great night as we started our battle with Tugs of War. There has never been a Camp Chen-A-Wanda TUGS OF WAR WITH MORE SPIRIT AND INTENSITY.  It was a night your children will remember and we are so proud to be part of these games that bring best out of us all.

  • The Heat is On

The heat was on today and when the temperature rises, we get wet. It was such a fun day and all throughout camp everyone was getting soaked in one way or another. Freshman girls were playing a giant game of wet duck duck goose in center camp that turned into a giant water fight. The giggles and laughs were in full force as everyone got into the fun. There wasn’t a dry person to be found. Head staff pulled out the water guns and the game was on. We had so much fun keeping our kids cool and they loved every minute of it. It was a perfect day to run through sprinklers, jump in the pool, play in the lake or have a giant water fight in center camp. And of course, popsicles for snack call was a must. Campers and staff stayed cool and had the greatest day.

Heat or no heat, our athletes played their hearts out today and we couldn’t be more proud.

What an absolute blast tonight was and your kids loved it!!! They danced and sang and jumped around and let loose. The vibe was amazing, the music was rockin and the night was epic. Tonight was one of those summer nights that standout as pretty close to perfect. Best news is we get to do it al over again tomorrow.

  • Trip Day!

It was absolute  perfect first Trip Day of the summer.

Our Freshmen & Juniors enjoyed their day at Claws and Paws Animal Park & The Rink at Mayfield/  United Sports Academy Ninja Nook, while our Middies, Inters, & Collegiates had a blast at Kalahari Resort! Our Seniors, Supers, & GCs went all in at Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark and  Pocono Outlets!  Finally, our CITs had an awesome breakfast at everyones favorite Binghams Restaurant before spending the day in Dickson City.
Back to regular programming tomorrow; the first trip day of Summer 2023 was a BLAST 🤩

All the campers are safe and sound back in their bunks, all exhausted from an amazing day out. Sleeping peacefully and all excited that tomorrow is late wake up. When we announced it at this mornings line-up, we received a standing ovation. What a successful  trip day, full of memories that will last a lifetime. Your children were absolutely fantastic and every place our Chenny kids were today, we received praise on how well behaved and respectful our campers are.  Gotta love that.

Life is Great when you are a Chenny Kid.

  • & Fireworks

There is nothing quite like spending the 4th of July here at Camp Chen-A-Wanda. It is the best place to celebrate our day of independence. Everyone got into the red, white and blue spirit. Faces were painted, flags were flying high, red, white and blue tutus were everywhere and the continuous chants of “USA” were at every turn. Pride for our country was at an all time high and everyone got into the spirit. Our international staff was in awe of how spirited camp was today and how deep our pride is for our country. They too joined in the fun and got decked out, head to toe in red, white and blue. There is nothing more Americana than the 4th of July and today was just spectacular. We had perfect weather that added to todays great vibes. Just an all around ideal day at Chenny.

We had a full day of sports and our athletes brought their best effort today.

It was an incredible day here at Chenny but we all knew that the night was the best part and it did not disappoint. The weather tonight was picture perfect. It completely set the tone for what was the best firework show, that  I can remember.  We were decked out head to toe with glow sticks galore & flashing headbands, all red white and blue.  As the night grew darker and the anticipation was intense, we all counted down from 10 to 1 and then in a flash, the night sky lit up above us with the most spectacular firework show. I truly don’t know what is more impressive to watch; the sky light up with a rainbow of colorful fireworks or the look of amazement on your children’s faces as they watch with such anticipation for each firework to unveil above them.  They were just in amazement of what they were seeing and watching them enjoy it so, was a gift they gave to us. There is something about watching a firework show that makes you feel young and reminds you that those summer nights are priceless. Boys side Director Brian Leahy, was sitting in and amongst the freshman boys  as one of the kids leaned over to him and said, “Brian, this doesn’t feel real. I feel like I’m in a dream.” I know that each one of us sitting in the amphitheater, watching the firework show, will always remember tonight. It wasn’t just an ordinary night but a feeling that made you part of something pretty special.  That perfect feeling of an ideal summer night. There is no place on earth would we would rather be but right where we were. It was a magical day and that is how your kids spent their 4th of July.
