Red Peru Wins Olympics!

This Olympics was beyond unexpected; the leading team in the morning dropped by lunch. The leaderboard saw so much movement that it was hard to keep up, adding to the intense anticipation. Olympics is a cherished tradition, connecting generations of campers from decades ago to today. These traditions bond us to this place and to each other, weaving a thread through our shared experiences. Going through an Olympics together creates lasting bonds among campers. Over the past three days, every camper dug deep and gave their all to contribute to their team’s success. New friendships were formed, and connections deepened. It’s amazing to see how a kickball game or a water polo match can bring so many people closer together. This is why we love Olympics.

The Olympic games ended as all three teams presented their songs, banner and plaque inside Shields Hall. Each team presented their Cheer, March and their Alma Mater and the words they sang were  sung in unison together as a team. It is why this experience means so much to us all. When you let camp in, it overtakes your heart and changes who you are. The words they learned from each song they sang will be forever etched in their minds and hearts for years to come.

Now it was in the hands of judges as the decision of who would win Olympics 2024 was about to be announced. Shields Hall was packed with our campers dressed head to toe in their team colors waiting on bated breath and all at the edge of their seats. The time had come and with a new tradition, we had a countdown and then off the stage, shot the winning colors in a burst of confetti and streamers. It was a sight to see and incredible to be at. The energy could blow the roof of the building and everyone inside Shields Hall was celebrating regardless if they were wearing red, gold or blue.

Final Scores:

  • Red Peru – 2,410
  • Blue France – 2,145
  • Gold Zimbabwe – 2,105

What we learned from these games were that we all played hard, respected the game, supported each other and believed that in the end it wasn’t just about getting the win but being there for one another. Two and half days ago, we began as Red Peru, Gold Zimbabwe and Blue France and tonight we are back to One Camp Chen-A-Wanda family.
