  • Say Cheese… It was picture day!

We started off today gathered in the Rec Hall organizing every division to take our camp photos. You will all be receiving these photos on Visiting Day.

After the photos, the girls continued practicing for Sign & Song. All across main campus were groups of girls laughing, rehearsing and getting their program down pat.

Upper Boys went out to the movies this afternoon and had a fantastic time. They got back to camp just in time for dinner.

Arts & Crafts was busy busy busy filled with campers & counselors who were putting together the finishing touches on their bunk signs. The pride that was taken into each sign was fantastic. Wait until you see them. Tonight’s show was spectacular. The tradition and high standard of Sign & Song was upheld tonight. Each girls bunk performed a dance to a song based on their bunk letter. From our littlest juniors to our CIT’s, they worked hard and it showed.

    The following awards were given:

    • Lower Camp Girls “Best Sign” was awarded to Bunk E (Mini-Juniors).
    • Lower Camp Boys “Best Sign” was awarded to Bunk D (Juniors).
    • Upper Camp Girls “Best Sign” was awarded to Bunk Q (GC’s).
    • Upper Camp Boys “Best Sign” was awarded to Bunk W1 (Waiters/CITs).
    • Lower Camp Girls “Best Song” was awarded to the Middies in Bunk H. The “Homies” stole the show.
    • Upper Camp Girls “Best Song” was awarded to the GCs in Bunk Q. These Queens of Pop dazzled us all with a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Tomorrow is just a few hours away and it looks to be another beautiful day at
    Camp Chen-A-Wanda.

  • Sports

Congratulations to our 7th grade girls basketball team who won their game today. Way to go girls!!!

Our 9th grade girls basketball team lost in their opening game. We will get‘em next time.

  • Another fantastic day at CHEN-A-WANDA

The day began with the most beautiful mist over Fiddle Lake. It was picturesque. After the rainy day prior, the sun was out today and all the campers had a full day of activities. All of our new campers are truly getting into the camp schedule.

Girls side was practicing for sign and song. Watching them prepare, we know that tomorrow night’s show is sure to be a success.

The Inter Boys had cooking today and loved it. Making, baking and eating. What could be better?

We have some very talented campers that showed off their special and unique talents at tonight’s evening activity, THE CAMPER TALENT SHOW. The campers wowed us with their singing, poems, magic tricks, dancing and everything in between.

The best part of tonight is knowing that we get to play again tomorrow.

  • Our First Wayne County Game!

Today was Camp CHEN-A-WANDA’s first Wayne County Tournament game. Our 10th and 11th grade girls were victorious in today’s tennis match at Tyler Hill. Congratulations to our fantastic tennis team. Your girls rock!

  • We’re singing in the RAIN!!!!

The rain came down but that didn’t stop all the fun. We went to our rainy day activities and the campers played indoors. There were arts & crafts, board games, scooter hockey in the rec hall, movie time in the teen center, Xbox in the canteen and other fun stuff inside.

The kids gathered under the gymnastic pavilion and practiced for Sign and Song. The dances are looking great for Thursday night’s show.

High School Musical 2 parts were announced today and all our actors start rehearsal tomorrow.
The campers enjoyed our evening activity, The Dating Game. Our bachelors asked questions to the bachelorettes and vice versa. The happy couples will get the big date later this summer.

Another fun day down…and the great news is, we get to play again tomorrow.

  • We are getting in the groove!!!

It was a fantastic day at Camp Chen-A-Wanda. Auditions for girls were held today for our production of High School Musical 2. There was a big turnout and it looks as if this show will be a huge hit. The boys are looking forward to their auditions tomorrow.

Tryouts for Wayne county teams continued and practices are underway.

Hobby, our elective program for the campers, was in full swing today. Campers were flying off the water trampoline, swinging from the trapeze and hitting homeruns.
The Inter girls were the first campers to utilize our fabulous new cooking facility. They baked both chocolate chip and cinnamon raisin cookies from start to finish. They even cleaned the dishes!!! The delicious smell spread throughout camp and everyone can’t wait to cook tomorrow.

Tonight our evening activity was Camp Chen-A-Wanda’s Deal or No Deal. Just like the TV game show, we offered a variety of prizes and those lucky chosen camper contestants, Abigail Nussbaum, Adam Heimowitz, Nicole Guttenberg and Jacob Metzger called “DEAL” and won some fantastic prizes, including an ice cream party, $20, a pizza party and TV in the teen center.
As the night ends and all our campers are sleeping safely in their bunks…we can’t wait to start it all over again tomorrow.

  • First Full Day – Activities are in full swing!

It was a fantastic day at Camp Chen-A-Wanda. The sun was shining and the kids were out playing and having a great time. All the kids took their swim test and passed with flying colors.

We had a full day of tryouts for both boys and girls that included soccer, baseball, lacrosse, basketball & softball. There were big turnouts and it looks as if Chen-A-Wanda will have some excellent teams playing this summer. All kids who tryout make the team at C-A-W!!!

The Official First Friend event was held today. All of our “Littles” met with their “Bigs” and played games and got to know one another better. It was great to see the older campers embrace and share their wonderful stories and experiences with our newest Chenny campers. This helped make the new campers feel welcome, connected and excited to be at Camp Chen-A-Wanda.

Tonight’s evening activity was comedian magician Michael Kent who dazzled the campers to a fantastic magic show. He performed great tricks that have the campers still baffled as to “how’d he do that?”

It was great day and we all can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

  • Opening Day!

We had a fantastic first day full of games, ice breakers, relay races and time getting to know one another. The kids were off and running as soon as they stepped off the bus. The sun shined here at Camp Chen-A-Wanda and there was a buzz in the air that this will be a very special summer.

We introduced our head staff at evening activity and showed a video montage of summer 2008. The returning campers loved to watch highlights of last year and the new campers loved to see what is in store for them this summer.

We have a new tradition here at camp in which we honor those who have dedicated there summers to Camp Chen-A-Wanda. Campers and staff who have spent 5, 7 and 10 years received special gifts from us. The campers were so surprised and felt extremely special. Exactly what our goal was!

All in all, it was day full of smiles, laughter and making new friends. What a great way to start summer 2009.

  • The buses have arrived!
