  • ‘s – LATE WAKE UP TODAY

We had a late wake up today and boy was that needed after the festivities of yesterday. It came at the perfect time. The weather was perfect and the day was ideal.  The campers were just having an absolute ball today. Center camp was full of happy campers, playing catch, taps, swinging on the swings and just having a perfect summer day.

We played tons of games, matches and tournaments today at camp.  As always, our athletes showed great sportsmanship. We are so proud of them all.

  • INDEPENDENCE DAY

We all got into the 4th of July spirit today. We painted our faces, we wore red, white and blue and we paid tribute to our great country. We shared our traditions, our songs and our pride with our counselors and staff that have come from other countries.  It was an amazing day and you could feel it in the air. No better place was there to be than at Chen-A-Wanda to celebrate Americas Independence.

All the campers enjoyed a full day of regular activities and as the sun was shining down on us all today, we were continually reminded of our freedom and how lucky we all are to live in this great country. We danced on our seats in The Lodge to all American themed songs throughout the day.

As the sun set, the excitement grew and we all headed up to the outside amphitheater to watch our very own spectacular firework show. Everyone at camp had red, white and blue glow sticks, headbands and necklaces. In the darkness of  our night, we were all lit up and the site was amazing. The music was bumping and the dance party began. Standing in our seats, you couldn’t help feel the spirit of the night. No matter if you are a freshman or a CIT or staff, we sang at the top of our lungs and we danced like nobody was watching. We celebrated together and as the night grew darker, we all sat in awe of the most brilliant firework show that took our breath away. The sky lit up with every color of the rainbow as the fireworks kept booming and each one was more beautiful than the one before. It was a night that we won’t forget.

Today was all about our freedom, our gratitude and our pride. You can’t quite describe the feeling of celebrating the 4th of July here at camp. You just have to experience it. And we all did, together!

  • TRIP DAY

We all enjoyed our first trip day of the summer. Our Freshmen and Juniors spent the day at Nathaniel State Park. They swam in the lake, made sand castles and lounged in the sun. As the sun set, the kids enjoyed a delicious BBQ lakeside.  They all arrived back at camp around 7:30pm and were smiling ear to. One Junior girl got off the bus and said what a fun day she had but she was so glad to be home. Even when you are at camp, trips are great but coming home is just so sweet.

The Middies and Inters had an amazing day spent bowling and roller-skating. They loved every minute of it. They got to hang out with their friends as they bowled together and then off to the rink for some old school roller-skating fun. What a fun day they all had. It was a great way to spend a hot summer day.

Our Collegiates and Seniors roared down the river as their day was spent white water rafting. Together they battled the river. It was exciting, it was thrilling, it was challenging and it was awesome.

The Supers and GC’s had a ball at Camel Brach. The weather was nice and hot as they spent the afternoon in the wave pool and getting soaked on water rides. The park was empty and it felt as if they had it all to themselves. Another perfect way to spend a hot summer day.

The CIT’s enjoyed themselves as they had lunch at Windsors followed by a day of shopping at the Mall. They lunched, they spent quality time together and they enjoyed every moment.

All our campers are back home in their bunks sleeping peacefully. Exhausted from all the great adventures they experienced today. A successful fun trip day was had by all.

  • MONDAY FUNDAY

Things at camp are rolling right along and we are having a ball. The weather could not have been more perfect and we all took advantage of the beautiful landscape that we are living in. Just breathtaking. At the lake, I overheard one camper saying to another, “It’s so beautiful here, can you believe we get live here all summer?” Those moments of gratitude are just awesome.

The campers spent the day playing. When you stop and think about it for a moment, where can you spend the whole day playing baseball followed by a soccer game then head to the waterfront for some tubing, then over to circus to fly on a trapeze and end your day by soaring on the zip line. This happens here everyday. In a world that is so stressful filled with schedules, studying & pressure, we play. We play all day long.

No matter if we experience the joys of winning or the agony of defeat, we play. We are so proud of our Chenny athletes for their amazing skill and sportsmanship.

Boys 3rd/4th Grade Baseball – Equinunk 2 vs. CAW 0

Girls 5th Grade Soccer – CAW 2 vs. Lavi 0

Boys 10th/11th Grade Soccer – CAW 7 vs. Lavi 0

Tonight was Deal or No Deal and our campers made great deals. There were pizza parties, extended curfews and so many more exciting deals. There were chants and cheers as each participating camper was guided by their bunkmates to take the deal or to stay and play. It was another great night full of Chenny fun and memories we won’t soon forget.

  • CHENNY JAMS

Wow, what another great day at CAW. The weather was picture perfect and camp was buzzing with happy campers. We have been here for only 8 days and it feels like we have been in this routine for months. We often refer to this place as our summer home and it sure does feel like that. We have formed a summer family here and the bonds that have been made will last forever.

The activities here are so much fun but they are indescribable when you do them with your friends. You can walk through Arts & Crafts and will see campers making beautiful works of art together, you can stroll up to wiffle ball and you see friends playing together or you can walk in The Cookhouse and see a group of kids cooking together. That is what this place is all about. The activities are fabulous but they wouldn’t be fun doing them alone. How lucky are we to have a whole summer family to play with, to trust and to be there for our ups and our downs. That is the magic of Chen-A-Wanda.

Campers stayed busy as they played their games. Our athletes did a great job on the fields and courts today.  It was a Chenny sweep with all our games today.

Girls 3rd/4th/5th Grade Tennis – CAW 3 vs. Starlight 2

Boys 7th Grade Softball – CAW 10 vs. Tyler Hill 6

Girls 8th Grade LAX – CAW 13 vs. Island Lake 10

Boys 9th Grade Soccer – CAW 9 vs. Tyler Hill 0

The highlight of today had to be CHENNY JAMS. We had a staff basketball game and you could have sworn you were at an NBA game. It was Girls Camp vs. Boys Camp and so far this summer, this was the best evening activity yet. Girls wore black and pink while boys were dressed in white. Each side went crazy on the spirit as they painted their faces; spray painted their hair and spent the night cheering on their team. There was a halftime show dance from our GC girls, free T-shirts launched into the crowd and an incredible half court shot made by Jon Grabow. There was so much spirit and intense camp pride; you could feel it and every corner here at camp. One amazing summer night here at Chenny!

Chenny’s got talent and confidence! We all were entertained tonight with the camper talent show and overwhelmed with the support we give one another. No matter if we sang off key or stumbled as we danced, all the acts we applauded with a standing ovation. Campers took the stage and were supported not only for their talent but also for their effort. We have the most supportive and enthusiastic camp ever!!! We all loved seeing our friends on that stage entertain us but we all left feeling great inside from the energy we all brought into the Rec Hall. This type of cheering support doesn’t happen 10 months out of the year but you can guarantee it happens for 2 months here at CAW! Love this place.

  • SAY CHEESE

It was picture day at camp so we spent the morning taking bunk, solo and sibling pics. The temperature was raising so after all our pictures were taken; the pool and lake were the place to be.  We blobbed, we banana boated, we swung on the Tarzan swing and we just had cool fun on a hot day.

Our Chenny athletes played their hearts out today. And gave it their all.

Girls 5th/6th Grade LAX – CAW 9 vs. Trails End 4

Boys 8th Grade Soccer – CAW 4 vs. Poyntelle 1

Girls 9th Grade Tennis – Weequahic 4 vs. CAW 1

    Boys 10th/11th Baseball – Poyntelle 11 vs. CAW 1

We had an amazing night tonight with an evening of Round Robin. Each division had their own activity on camp. The Freshman & Junior Boys played Bingo in the Rec Hall. The Freshman Girls made cookies and had story time at the Grabows house. Junior Girls made murals at Arts & Crafts. Middy Boys and Girls made cups of delicious dirt dessert and then watched Holes in the Chen-A-Plex. All of the Inters sang karaoke in the canteen. Collegiate Girls had s’mores and songs at Chenny Village. Collegiate & Seniors Boys played a serious game of Dodgeball in the hockey rink. Super, Senior and GC Boys had sports night in The Lodge. Seniors Girls played a crazy game of wiffleball while the GC Girls had a cookie decorating party in The Cookhouse. Supers & CIT girls enjoyed manicures and facial masks with a beauty night in the Teen Center.

The sky was pink as the sun set over the lake. It was a perfect summer night, just perfect.

  • NEW JERSEY/BROOKLYN NETS CENTER BROOK LOPEZ IN THE HOUSE

The excitement was in the air with the anticipation of a visit from Nets star Brook Lopez and he delivered BIG. I think all our Knick and Heat fans are now big fans of this Nets player. A super great guy and the kids loved him. He spent all day at camp interacting with the kids.

We all gathered at the new court for a skills and drills session with some selected campers. Brook walked around giving pointers and high fives to all the kids. Then we had upper camp play a scrimmage as Brook watched and guided them with suggestions on their game. The morning ended with a Q&A  session as the kids asked him everything from his favorite player block to what is his favorite food is. He was gracious, open, funny and ended the session with how he wished he could be a camper at Chen-A-Wanda. We blew Brooks mind as he entered our typical rockin Lodge for some amazing lunch but what was spectacular is his choice to sit right in between and amongst the Freshman girls. He was rockin out and singing along with the entire camp. Can’t tell you how great it was to see a 7’ tall NBA player singing along to Justin Bieber songs right with our smallest campers.  It was a sight to see. (video and pics will be up soon). To end his visit, Brook went to each bunk and took pictures with each group. He signed an autograph for each and every camper. The day was amazing and we all became huge Brook Lopez fans. What a treat and what a class act he is.

We played some great sports today. Here are the scores to todays games:

Boys 5th Grade Basketball – CAW 27 vs. Tioga 6

Girls 6th Grade Soccer – CAW 2 vs. Trails End 0

Girls 7th Grade Tennis – CAW 3 vs. Wayne 2

Girls 10th/11th Grade Softball – Wayne 16 vs. CAW 2

A perfect summer night for a swim party and that is exactly what we did tonight. There couldn’t be anything more fun than swimming at night with our friends. There were beach balls and diving contests, cannon balls and just hanging in the pool tubes. The music was pumpin’ and the energy was insane. An awesome day and an incredible night. This will go down in the books as one great Chenny Day!!!!

  • & Song

We had another amazing day and even though it’s only been five days, we have truly formed a family up here. Eating all together, singing all together, playing all together have made these past five days remarkable. Can’t quite explain the feeling of how much support we give one another and how great it feels.

A new camper hit a homerun over the Big Red Monster today at Wiffle Ball and when you do that at camp, you get to sign the wall. It’s not an easy thing to do and when this camper hit that homerun, his entire division cheered him on as if he were in Yankee stadium and hit a grand slam. He only met these boys five days ago and you could hear them all say how proud of him they are. It was pure elation for not only that camper who hit the homerun, but for all who witnessed this great accomplishment. We lift each other up here. Each individual highlight is celebrated by all. We truly love to see each other succeed. What can be better than that?

We are so proud of our 8th grade Boys baseball team who played their hearts out vs. Poyntelle with a 15 – 1 victory. Great job boys.

The evening was all about Sign and Song and the show didn’t disappoint. Each bunk presented their plaque as the judges scored them on creativity, uniqueness and artwork. Girls’ side blew us all away with their amazing dances. What made tonight so special was after each performance, Boys’ side gave every group a loud cheering and supportive standing ovation. The spirit and camp pride was off the charts tonight in our Rec Hall. It’s contagious and it feels awesome.

Congratulations to the winning bunks !

Lower Camp Plaque – Girls Bunk D and Boys Bunk H

Upper Camp Plaque – Girls Bunk W and Boys Bunk W

Lower Camp Dance – Girls Bunk D

Upper Camp Dance – Girls Bunk R

  • A CHILLY BEAUTIFUL DAY

A cold front blew into camp today but that didn’t stop us from playing and having the greatest day. It was a day full of regular activities and games. Girl’s side was perfecting their dance for tomorrows Sign & Song and all of camp was putting on their finishing touches to their bunk plaques (which look absolutely amazing by the way).  There is so much spirit and camp pride here. We all feel it from the Lodge to Wiffle Ball. We are only four days into camp and it’s as if we’ve been here for weeks. We are in the swing of things and it feels so great.

The cast has been selected for our production of The Wizard of Oz and all our actors have started rehearsals. We have some amazingly talented actors, singers and dancers who are excited to walk down that yellow brick road and perform for us. Congratulations to the cast!

Today was our first day of Wayne County games. It was a valiant effort from our athletes who had a ball playing their sport. We are so proud of our athletes who showed great sportsmanship.

    Boy’s 3rd/4th grade Hockey  – CAW 7 vs. Trails End 2

Boys 6th grade Tennis – Weequahic 4 vs. CAW 1

    Boys 7th, 8th & 9th grade LAX – Trails End 10 vs. CAW 4

Girls 9th grade Basketball – Weequahic 26 vs. CAW 20

    Boys 10th/11th Tennis – Wayne 3 vs. CAW 2

It was movie night at Chen-A-Wanda as all our campers relaxed in their cozy comfortable clothes, blankets and pillows and watched a movie. We have been running on high speed since they arrived on Saturday so it was a nice downward shift to relax a bit. A great night watching a movie, having a snack and being with our friends. It doesn’t get better than that.
